Mercedes-Benz Classic atRetro Classics 2017


From the ALL TIME STARS trading activities to servicing and replacement parts supply for the brand's classic automobiles, Mercedes-Benz Classic is placing the focus of its show presentation on its comprehensive range of services at Retro Classics 2017. The Stuttgart-based brand is also presenting sporty cars from its history and the present day. The Retro Classics show will be held between 2 and 5 March 2017 at the Stuttgart exhibition centre.

Mille Miglia


In the jubilee year of the Mille Miglia, Mercedes-Benz Classic is remembering legendary wins and thrilling moments from the history of the Italian 1000-mile race: to mark the 90th anniversary of the Mille Miglia the Stuttgart is entering the race with a total of ten vehicles. The classics represent various eras in the involvement of Mercedes-Benz in the road race from Brescia to Rome and back held since 1927. This year the Mille Miglia is taking place from 18 to 21 May 2017 in four stages.

Mercedes-Benz Summer ofConcerts


After a successful anniversary year in 2016, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is collaborating in 2017 with the Stuttgart-based concert organiser Chimperator Live to add a new format called "Mercedes-Benz Summer of Concerts" to its cultural calendar. From 29 June to 2 July 2017, the Mercedes-Benz Museum will for the first time play host to pop concerts on two different stages for between 1500 and 6500 spectators.

The series 124 coupé turns 30


It was almost 30 years ago, in March 1987, that Mercedes-Benz brought out the coupé variant of the mid-sized 124 model series. This means that, from 2017, in Germany for example, the first vehicles will be ripe for the coveted H (historic) licence plate. Yet the coupé models have long been classics – for some aficionados, they have held that status since their very debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1987.

All Mercedes-Benz SLs since1952 in one book


"Mercedes-Benz SL – Six Decades of Fascination" is the title of a new book on the iconic model series of the Stuttgart-based brand. The book is published by Motorbuch Verlag, Stuttgart. Running to 528 pages, it provides in-depth information on every SL from 1952 through to the current 2017 model year. With over 800 photos (some previously unpublished), comprehensive tables and complete descriptions of all SL special models, it is a sumptuous textbook and reference work.

60 years ago: Second USchampionship for Paul O’Shea


Racing driver Paul O'Shea won his second title as US sports car champion in the 1956 season driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL "Gullwing". When the season ended on 28 December 1956, he was champion in the category "D Production“ and had scored the most points in the National Sports Car Championship of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). He went on to defend his title again the following year, this time driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS, the racing version of the 300 SL Roadster.

London to Brighton VeteranCar Run 2016


The annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR) is set to take place on the first Sunday in November – as it has done since 1927. The rules state that participating vehicles must have been built no later than 1904. The resulting line-up gives participants and spectators an unforgettable glimpse of the early days of the automobile.

Autumn 1936: Mercedes-Benzsets new speed records


A new record-breaking vehicle with a streamlined body and fully faired wheels as well as a likewise new V12 supercharged engine rated at 453 kW (616 hp): thus equipped, Rudolf Caracciola, the 1935 European Grand Prix champion, set out in autumn 1936 to break records for Mercedes-Benz. His mission was a successful one. On 26 October 1936, the racing driver recorded a record speed of 372.102 km/h. And on 11 November 1936, he set a new world record of 333.489 km/h over 10 miles with a flying start.

Mercedes-Benz Museum specialexhibition for the IAA


The stars of transport and logistics are visiting the Mercedes-Benz Museum: from 18 October to 13 November a special exhibition will be showing the highlights of the current Daimler commercial vehicle range. The presentation of a total of 17 different vehicles follows on directly from the International Commercial Vehicle Show (IAA) 2016 in Hannover.

Music Festival in theMercedes-Benz Museum


Premiere with drums and four grand pianos: in September 2016, for the first time, the Stuttgart Music Festival of the renowned International Bach Academy will see two concerts taking place in the Mercedes-Benz Museum. On 3 September, percussionist Murat Coşkun will be making a guest appearance with a family concert entitled "Stories from 1000 and one rhythms".

Mercedes-Benz presented a sunny outlook for the upper medium class at the 1991 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt/Main. That is where an elegant convertible celebrated its September premiere 25 years ago. The four-seater model with a fabric soft top belonged to the 124 series, which bore the name E-Class from 1993 onwards.

Sachsen Classic 2016


The Saxony Classic rally (18 to 20 August 2016) aptly describes itself as Saxony's longest car museum. Around 200 classic vehicles are registered to take part this year, and will be seen on some of the state's stunning roads and on the Sachsenring. The museum on wheels will feature three worthy classics from Stuttgart: a 300 SL Roadster (W 198), a 500 SL (R 107) and a Mercedes-Benz 230 (W 123). The 300 SL is to be driven by Wilfried Porth, board member of Daimler AG.

Mercedes-Benz 123 model series


At its launch in January 1976, the Mercedes-Benz 123 model series offered a persuasive combination of elegance and multiple technical innovations. The saloon was the first model to become available. The range was expanded a year later by the Coupé and, for the first time, an Estate model. Over the course of the next ten years almost 2.7 million vehicles were built, among them also long-wheelbase saloons and chassis for special bodies.
